Happy October

Well the semester is going fast... before you know it, it will be Christmas. In the mean time, life is going by at well the speed of life.

Clayton and I are doing extremely well. We are pushing a year now... November 9th is our anniversary and I feel closer to him now than I ever have. I am not sure what happened, I just woke up one day and realized that this is really working out. He does not push me, does not get upset when I have to do homework, and does not require me to be verbally committal, which are all downfalls of previous relationships. Somewhere along the line I realized that I just had to let go of some of the control.

As for school, it is hectic as ever. There is so much reading, sometimes I just can't keep up with it all... but it is all for a greater good... we are being molded to be become experts in our chosen area of expertise. My classes are going well. I got an A on my first Statistics test, and a high B on my second one. Usually, I would by crying over a B, but in this class ... it is above average for a good student. One of the things I am learning is that I have to let go of GPA too, no one really cares but me. I have to maintain above a B average to remain in the program, but a B every now and then is not going to kill me or my future.

Its October... and its almost Halloween... I was talking to my friend the other day, and she has never carved a pumpkin... so here's a link for her, and all others who don't want to get messy but would still like to carve a pumpkin...

Carve a Pumpkin

Thought for the day: "Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity." - Seneca

Funny Story: In Redondo Beach, Calif., a police officer arrested a driver after a short chase and charged him with drunk driving. Officer Joseph Fonteno's suspicions were aroused when he saw the white Mazda MX-7 rolling down Pacific Coast Highway with half of a traffic-light pole, including the lights, lying across its hood. The driver had hit the pole on a median strip and simply kept driving. According to Fonteno, when the driver was asked about the pole, he said, "It came with the car when I bought it."

Well that's all I've got for today folks... happy October!

9/11 We Remember

We Remember -

As you look at these pictures, take a moment to remind yourself exactly how you felt when you heard what happened, disbelief? Anger? Remorse? Fear? Remember the 3000+ people that died that day, their friends and families. Remember and honor the brave heroes - police, fire and EMS... and the ordinary men and women that became extraordinary heroes that day... Remember the men and women who fought the terrorists on the plane so that it would not crash into our capital. Remember how you felt watching the story unfold on the television, how you cried watching the footage of this terrible terrorist attack. Remind yourselves that it was the terrorists that did this. Remember our soldiers, who live and die to protect your rights to say, believe, think and feel whatever or however you want. Pray for them and their families.

Pray for the families of the victims from that day… This was bigger than Pearl Harbor - bigger than the Oklahoma bombings... bigger than anyone could have imagined. Remember how our country wept, but did not fall. Remember how our country came together in this time of crisis, full of pride and patriotism! Remember how Rudolph Giuliani’s strength and poise gave us all strength. Remember how good it felt to know that immediate action was being taken by the USA, by our President, to ensure that this did not happen again, happen in your town, happen to your family…. Remember why we are fighting. Remember….

Wow has it really been that long?

So kind of a lot has happened since I last updated. I graduated with a BS in psychology, cumme laude - and a BA in criminology summa cumme laude - which only seven out of 600+students graduating this summer earned (including me). I have been supper busy finishing up my senior year, and my senior thesis research project.

I also got accepted to UF's graduate program in the criminology department. I was awarded an assistantship, for which I TA/ teach for the University of Florida. In exchange, I recieve a small paycheck every two weeks, free health care, and my tuition is waved during the normal academic year. 9 people were accepted into the program this year - and it was our highest applicant pool ever. I am taking a back door, if you will, to a degree in forensic psychology. Classes began a little less than a month ago, and thus far I love it!

Not a whole lot has changed except I am busier now - which I am not sure how that is possible, but apparently it is. Oh, I play World of Warcraft instead of champions on PS2 now. It is so addictive.

Draco is doing well (teacup chihuahua) and I finally got Sunny in December of last year. Sunny helped so much with the stress level - even now, she keeps me cool - there is nothing I would rather do than spend the day with her. She has such a personality.

This is a little better insofar as photo quality. You can see how shiney she is!

Fact of the day: A bee produces enough energy in a year by flapping its wings to power a 60 watt light bulb for 2.5 hours.

Quote of the day: Technological progress is like an axe in the hands of a pathological criminal. ~Einstein.

Found Nemo....

I thought that was funny in a sick sort of way... LOL!

I am still liking my new car...

School is still going well. I got 100's on my last two psych tests, a 100 on my crim test... I have a B in chemistry which is not bad I guess, and a B+ in Spanish so far... which I am not used to, but It is still a good grade I guess.... all these B's are going to pull my GPA down though and that stresses me out.

Oh, I almost forgot... I almost died on Wednesday. I started my allergy shots, (they actually inject you with what you are allergic to, in small amounts to build an immunity to it.) well it through me into anaphlyactic shock... that was fun.

I am excited to start my senior thesis next semester. :) and I have apparently done well with my internship, because I pretty much have a sure thing job offer for when I graduate. Things to think about if I am not able to get into UF grad school.... Things to think about anyhow... cause I am just getting burnt out on school.

I have not dated since the alcoholic rocket scientist... that was back in March... I am supposed to have a date tonight... A mutual friend is trying to set us up... but I am skeptical as it is 1:30 the day of, and I have not heard from him. I don't know the guy very well, but I know that his family name is well respected in my small town... and that he and his brother hang out with my cousins, also a well respected name around town... And if there is one thing I have learned from psychology and criminology it is that the people you hang out with have very similiar beliefs to yours.

Well I gotta get back to cleaning and laundry...

#@$%

My new theme song by Rodney Atkins:

If You're Going Through Hell

Well you know those times
When you feel like there's a sign there on your back
Say's I don't mind if ya kick me
Seems like everybody has
Things go from bad to worse
You'd think they can't get worse than that
And then they do

You step off the straight and narrow
And you don't know where you are
Use the needle of your compass
To sew up your broken heart
Ask directions from a genie
In a bottle of Jim Beam
And she lies to You
That's when you learn the truth

If you're going through hell
Keep on going, Don't slow down
If you're scared, don't show it
You might get out
Before the devil even knows you're there

Well I been deep down in that darkness
I been down to my last match
Felt a hundered different demons
Breathing fire in my back
And I knew that if I stumbled
I'd fall right into the trap that they were laying, Yeah

But the good news
Is there's angels everywhere out on the street
Holding out a hand to pull you back upon your feet
The one's that you been dragging for so long
You're on your knees
You might as well be praying
Guess what I'm saying
If you're going through hell
Keep on going, Don't slow down
If you're scared, don't show it
You might get out
Before the devil even knows you're there

Yeah, If you're going through hell
Keep on moving, Face that fire
Walk right through it
You might get out
Before the devil even knows you're there

If you're going through hell
Keep on going, Don't slow down
If you're scared, don't show it
You might get out
Before the devil even knows you're there

Yeah, If you're going through hell
Keep on moving, Face that fire
Walk right through it
You might get out
Before the devil even knows you're there
Yeah you might get out
Before the devil even knows you're there
Yeah.

So yeah my car took a dive. I dumped a bunch of money into it, and it still died. So Bad news - I was not expecting a car payment again. Good news, I now have reliable transportation that I am not allergic to. :)

(My other car also leaked, and I am allergic to mold, so every time I got in my car it was allergy attack from hell)

It is a 2006 Ford Focus ZX4, I bought it used, with only 11,000 miles on it still under factory warranty 3/36k bumper to bumper and 5/100k Power train. And it just happens to be fully loaded. MP3 capable 6 disc changer, upgraded sony speakers, subwolfer and amp, rims, spoiler, side air bags :) The only thing I do not like is that it is black, which is why I think it was still there! Black cars in Florida are not good.

I tried to set this blog to private, as I will not have a lot of time to post this semester. Full load of classes, Internship, part time job, night class for GRE preperations, grad school applications - research for my honors thesis... the list just goes on and on worse than that damned pink bunny!

My grades are still good... I just don't sleep haha - Anyhow, I have two tests I need to get back to studying for...

Happy Halloween folks! Until next time.... *end credits*

This soap opera is brought to you in part by stress studios...

Circle of School

*insert lion king theme song here*

Well finals ended, and I got A's in all of my classes. My Psychology and Law instructor - who has been teaching for 15 years, emailed me to let me know that I earned the first perfect score on one of his exams EVER! That was really cool.

I have started Fall semester, and thus far it is pretty good. I have two hard classes: Spanish two and Chemistry, then I have Psychology of aging, and drugs and alcohol - and my internship. 16 credit hours.... it is going to be one heck of a semester for sure.

My internship is very cool - I am getting exposed to schizophrenia disorganized type and paranoid type, bi-polar disorder, antisocial personality disorder, depression with psychotic symptoms and all kinds of criminals that have been diagnosed with these things. So much better than reading them in a book.

I am still in therapy for my knee, and still in a brace, but I am back to riding my bike on campus. I really didn't have a choice, my classes are across campus from each other, and UF is a huge campus.

I am also taking Firefighter I class. Right now we are going over all the first responder stuff, and it is pretty cool... when it is all said and done, I will be first responder certified and certified to be a volunteer firefighter. pretty cool!

hope everyone is doing well... blog ya later.

It's nail biting time again!

I have finals on Thursday... studying my butt off, keep your fingers crossed for me. I have the second highest grade in my psych class and I am in the top 3% or so in my Crim class.

Just wanted to drop in and say hello, I am thinking about you guys...

I found a pretty good break down of the moments in our lives.

If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it.

Happy moments, praise God.
Difficult moments, seek God.
Quiet moments, worship God.
Painful moments, trust God.
Every moment, thank God.

Important Lessons

I did very well on my presentation, thanks for keeping your fingers crossed for me! Finals week is upon us UF students agian. I have two finals on Thursday.

I have a funny story. I went to confession Friday, after my classes. I have been attending St. Augustine for a month now, and I still don't even know where the bathroom is, let alone anyone to ask. So after confession, I asked Father if he had time after confession to give me a tour of the church, and some information on the student organizations. He hymmed and hawed a moment, and said he had a dinner, but if he could not do it he would have his secretary do it.

He gave me my pennance, and I waited in the church for him to finish confession. I prayed, and finished my pennance, all the while, the pews around me were starting to fill with people, but I did not give it much thought. Well Father comes out of confession, and I start to get up... and he heads to the pulpit for Mass. He totally tricked me!!! He never mentioned anything about after Mass. I ended up staying for Mass, which was good - just not planned, I did not even know we were having mass. I got my tour, and finally found the bathrooms! God works in mysterious ways! I still intend on going to on Sunday - I just thought it was funny.

Five Important Lessons:

1 - First Important Lesson - Cleaning Lady.

During my second month of college, our professor gave us a pop quiz. I was a conscientious student and had breezed through the questions until I read the last one:

"What is the first name of the woman who cleans the school?"

Surely this was some kind of joke. I had seen the cleaning woman several times. She was tall, dark-haired and in her 50s, but how would I know her name?

I handed in my paper, leaving the last question blank. Just before class ended, one student asked if the last question would count toward our quiz grade.

"Absolutely," said the professor. "In your careers, you will meet many people. All are significant. They deserve your attention and care, even if all you do is smile and say "hello ."

I've never forgotten that lesson. I also learned her name was Dorothy.

2. - Second Important Lesson - Pickup in the Rain

One night, at 11:30 p.m., an older African American woman was standing on the side of an Alabama highway, trying to endure a lashing rainstorm. Her car had broken down, and she desperately needed a ride.

Soaking wet, she decided to flag down the next car. A young white man stopped to help her, generally unheard of in those conflict-filled 1960s. The man took her to safety, helped her get assistance and put her into a taxicab.

She seemed to be in a big hurry, but wrote down his address and thanked him. Seven days went by, and a knock came on the man's door. To his surprise, a giant console color TV was delivered to his home. A special note was attached ..

It read:
"Thank you so much for assisting me on the highway the other night. The rain drenched not only my clothes, but also my spirits. Then you came along. Because of you, I was able to make it to my dying husband's bedside just before he passed away...God bless you for helping me and unselfishly serving others."

Sincerely,
Mrs. Nat King Cole.

3 - Third Important Lesson - Always remember those who serve

In the days when an ice cream sundae cost much less, a 10-year-old boy entered a hotel coffee shop and sat at a table. A waitress put a glass of water in front of him.

"How much is an ice cream sundae?" he asked.

"Fifty cents," replied the waitress.

The little boy pulled is hand out of his pocket and studied the coins in it.

"Well, how much is a plain dish of ice cream?" he inquired.

By now more people were waiting for a table and the waitress was growing impatient.

"Thirty-five cents," she brusquely replied

The little boy again counted his coins.

"I'll have the plain ice cream," he said.

The waitress brought the ice cream, put the bill on the table and walked away. The boy finished the ice cream, paid the cashier and left. When the waitress came back, she began to cry as she wiped down the table. There, placed neatly beside the empty dish, were two nickels and five pennies..

You see, he couldn't have the sundae, because he had to have enough left to leave her a tip.

4 - Fourth Important Lesson. - The obstacle in Our Path.

In ancient times, a King had a boulder placed on a roadway; then he hid himself and watched to see if anyone would remove the huge rock Some of the king's wealthiest merchants and courtiers came by and simply walked around it. Many loudly blamed the
King for not keeping the roads clear, but none did anything about getting the stone out of the way.

Then a peasant came along carrying a load of vegetables. Upon approaching the boulder, the peasant laid down his burden and tried to move the stone to the side of the road. After much pushing and straining, he finally succeeded. After the peasant picked up his load of vegetables, he noticed a purse lying in the road where the boulder had been. The purse contained many gold coins and a note from the King, indicating that the gold was for the
person who removed the boulder from the roadway. The peasant learned what many never understand!

Every obstacle presents an opportunity to improve our condition.

5 - Fifth Important Lesson - Giving When it Counts...

Many years ago, when I worked as a volunteer at a hospital, I got to know a little girl named Liz who was suffering from a rare and serious disease. Her only chance of
recovery appeared to be a blood transfusion from her 5-year old brother, who had
miraculously survived the same disease and had developed the antibodies needed to combat the illness. The doctor explained the situation to her little brother, and asked the little boy if he would be willing to give his blood to his sister.

I saw him hesitate for only a moment before taking a deep breath and saying, "Yes I'll do it, if it will save her." As the transfusion progressed, he lay in bed next to his sister and smiled , as we all did, seeing the color returning to her cheeks. Then his face grew pale and his smile faded.

He looked up at the doctor and asked with a trembling voice, "Will I start to die right away?"

Being young, the little boy had misunderstood the doctor; he thought he was going to have to give his sister all of his blood in order to save her.

Thoughts for the day: Two little words that can make the difference: Start Now

Children are likely to live up to what you believe of them. ~ Lady Bird Johnson

Factiod: Ever heard the saying once in a blue moon.... ever wonder what a blue moon is? Or how often blue moons come around?
A Blue Moon is the second full moon in a calendar month (it is rarely blue.)

The average interval between full moons is about 29.5 days, whilst the length of an average month is roughly 30.5 days. This makes it very unlikely that any given month will contain two Full Moons, though it does happen sometimes.

On average, there will be 41 months that have two full moons in every centrury, so you could say that once in a Blue Moon actually means Once every two-and-a-half years.
